Gum Tree Lodge, a 1926 convict station turned backpacker compound, is set on 10 hectares of towering blue gums. A step back in time to the diamond rush, it now offers a licensed restaurant, swimming pool, kiddies playground, braai spots and tuck shop. Visit the Big Hole and Kimberley’s excellent museums.
