Windhoek

Windhoek is probably the best place from which to organise your backpacking trip around Namibia as pretty much everything either starts or ends up here. There are some fantastic backpacking lodges in this city.

Best beer in the world

Windhoek is probably the best place from which to organise your trip around Namibia as pretty much everything either starts or ends up here.
The city has excellent weather and is always sunny (except at night) and Windhoek beer is great as it has no chemicals and takes 100x longer to brew than anything you’ll find in South Africa.
There’s also a whole heap to do. But most people love it because you don’t have to do whatever you do quickly and the beer is really very good.

Draught beer, Kassler Ribs and Sauerkraut.
Head into the surrounding hills and mountains for sundowners and watch the city light up, then indulge in carnivorous delights at Joe’s Beer House - a case of see food and eat it (whether ‘it’ is gemsbok or zebra). If you’re feeling homesick, have a draught, kassler ribs and sauerkraut.
